1 Bedroom, 2 Baths, 1700 Square Feet Atelier Wong is a 1700-sf residence and photographer's studio. The simple plan empowers the client to live his ideally adroit lifestyle by encouraging creativity and productivity. His desire to evaluate patterns, priorities, and rituals governs the organization of this utilitarian space. published online at: Apartment Therapy, MocoLoco and Dezeen. Green material selections: On the first floor, an exposed concrete floor stays cool in hot weather; it does not require a redundant flooring material over the top of it. The loft uses thick dimensional lumber as flooring material to allow multiple re-finishing opportunities throughout its life. Richlite countertops provide a durable paper-fiber recycled material that may be sanded to remove stains. The steel stud shell is a life-long material that is resistant to rot or infestation. An instant water heater for uses energy more efficiently. SEER 16 mechanical units within the conditioned envelope operate at higher efficiency than exterior units. Green design: This simple wedge-shaped building envelope reduces the western exterior wall and creates a single shed roof for maximized water collection. A butterfly-roofed carport also maximizes potential water collection. A deep eave on the western elevation shades glass from afternoon sun. The flexible floor plan allows for multiple living arrangements and lifestyles. Cottam Hargrave and green: In acting as advocates for our clients, our main goal is to create an engaging home that will endure weather, time and circumstance. By utilizing permanent materials and exposing durable finishes, many of our structures hide their true age and require little maintenance. From early schematic design, we seek to capitalize on site conditions: avoiding sun over-exposure, capturing available breezes and considering future use of the site. The building layout responds to our clients’ current needs and considers possible future needs in terms of people, patterns and activities. We seek to go beyond current trends or styles and instead create resolutions that express experiential volumes and honest material massing. Architect: Jay Hargrave, Cottom Hargrave Home is not currently offered for sale.
